CM Punk’s WWE comeback has certainly sparked excitement among fans and triggered numerous dream match scenarios. Among the most intriguing speculations is the possibility of a showdown with Steve Austin. This topic has been a hot subject in the Internet Wrestling Community, fueling enthusiastic discussions and raising hopes for a historic encounter in the world of professional wrestling. That match might be a pipe dream, but WWE does have immediate and long-term plans for CM Punk already.
Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins seem destined to clash, and many fans wonder how WWE will book that encounter. Although a WWE World Heavyweight Title run may be something that fans want for CM Punk, WWE might not want to take that leap with him quite yet.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that WWE may test CM Punk with his first feud. He may not win, thus trying him a bit to see how he reacts to not coming out on top. Depending on how he reacts to that loss may determine his trajectory in the company from there.
“Yeah, I think that they may do that just to, you know, see his attitude. I could see that. I think from a business standpoint — see that’s the problem.”
“From a pure business standpoint, if he had no baggage on him and everything like that, I would say that he really should win, he’s so over blah blah blah blah, but I don’t think you can go that way. I think he has to do something to prove to everyone that he can do business. I’m sure he will, because he has to. They’re not gonna put up with that, they’re not gonna put up with him saying ‘no.’ So, I think there’s a good chance of that happening, because in the long-term they do wanna go with him and Roman Reigns, so in that case, what do you do?”
It was further noted that WWE’s plan for CM Punk vs Roman Reigns is “very long term.” That being said, CM Punk may have plenty of stories to tell until that match is upon him.
Only time will tell how WWE books CM Punk’s return run with the company. His Survivor Series return was certainly a big moment in Chicago, but they will have to follow it up with a lot more angles to come, some of those may not see CM Punk on the winning side of things.
