Cody Rhodes made his WWE return in 2022 and has enjoyed notable success. He is widely considered the company’s top babyface and has been consistently protected since his impressive comeback at WrestleMania 38, with only one recorded pinfall loss. He had many reasons for leaving WWE the first time, as he totally bet on himself, but Matt Cardona may have his own narrative.
Interference played a role when Solo Sikoa prevented Cody Rhodes from defeating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. Cody’s last instance of a clean pinfall loss in WWE took place during his Stardust persona, when he was defeated by Zack Ryder, who is now known as Matt Cardona, on an episode of Superstars in May 2016.
Interestingly enough, this match was Cody Rhodes’ final appearance before he requested his release from WWE just five days later. In a humorous tone, Matt Cardona jokingly asserted that he was the one who caused the second-generation star to leave the company.
The former United States Champion shared a quoted tweet featuring a statistic that mentioned the last four WWE Superstars to secure a pinfall victory over The American Nightmare. Matt Cardona included a simple caption with his re-post: “I made him quit WWE.”
Matt Cardona went on to delete that post a short time alter. Perhaps he realized that fans may take that post out of context. Either way, it was certainly an interesting message to put out into the world.
We will keep an eye on this story, and many more, in the pro wrestling world. You never know what will break next, but we will be here with all the headlines right here at Ringside News.
