AEW has a lot of plans for the future, and Tony Khan’s company has a lot of things in the pipeline for the future. This includes the introduction of a cross promotional championship because of the Continental Classic tournament.
The Continental Classic round-robin tournament will see 12 stars compete weekly in matches. The tournament will start on November 22nd in Chicago, and then it will continue for the next six weeks until the finals on December 27th in Orlando.
As announced at AEW Full Gear, the winner of the AEW Continental Classic will be the new ROH World Champion, NJPW Strong Openweight Champion, and AEW Continental Champion. Eddie Kingston, the reigning ROH and NJPW Strong Champion is putting his two titles on the line while the winner will get the Continental Championship.
During the post-show media scrum, Tony Khan confirmed that the new Triple Crown Champion will actually defend the title in AEW, ROH and NJPW as that wrestler will be the champion for all three brands. He added that the championship will be defended throughout the year across these three promotions.
We will have to wait and see who will end up becoming the Triple Crown Champion after the Continental Classic tournament is over. After all, the champion will be someone who is willing to work extra hard in all three promotions.
