Update: There was a lot going on behind the scenes about this contract.
Original: AEW is always looking to improve their roster, and Full Gear was a big night for that. A new signing was promised during the show, and Tony Khan delivered.
Ringside News provided full coverage of AEW Full Gear. It was quite a show, and there was no shortage of talking points throughout the event.
AEW promised a surprise signing at Full Gear, someone who has the pro wrestling world’s respect. There were a lot of possibilities out there, and a ton of fan theories, but the time finally came to reveal AEW’s newest roster member.
When the time finally came, Tony Schiavone announced that Will Ospreay is the new signing. Will Ospreay begged the AEW fans to let him finish up in NJPW, because he inked an 8-year deal with them.
Will Ospreay said that he is All Elite, and he will be there on the road to Revolution. He then begged Tony Khan to get him a big opponent for All In at Wembley Stadium.
This is a big move for AEW, because there was interest from WWE in Will Ospreay’s services. Now, Ospreay will be All Elite, but the specifics of his deal have not been revealed yet.
Notable names like Dolph Ziggler, Mustafa Ali, Shelton Benjamin, and others have emerged as potential candidates, although it’s worth noting that they are currently subject to 90-day non-compete clauses following their WWE releases. Additionally, Mercedes Mone has been a rumored contender for this surprise signing.
Goldberg’s name was also thrown around out there. He is also expected to land in AEW eventually. There were a ton of rumors about Ronda Rousey signing with AEW as well, especially after her appearance on ROH TV this week.
We will have to see what Will Ospreay does in AEW, but he still has a bit of time left in NJPW.
