Gunther has established himself as one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time ever since he debuted in the company back in January 2019. He has become such a major deal that fans believe he perfectly fits the WWE mould. That said, Gunther admitted that he used to despise WWE once.
He is already the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in history. Not only that, but he has yet to be pinned or submitted on the main roster so far. Prior to this, he also held the NXT United Kingdom Championship for 870 days before dropping it to Ilja Dragunov.
While speaking with Steve Fall of WrestlingNews.co, Gunther admitted that he used to despise WWE in the past, as the product did not match his interest – as he was more focused on wrestling.
“When I grew up, as a wrestler not when I was a kid, but when I was wrestling and diving in deep and trying to get better and stuff. I don’t know; I kind of despised WWE at that point because I didn’t like watching it. I was focused on I want to be a wrestler, and I want to be…yeah. I want to focus on that athleticism, and everything around it was too much for my personal taste in that time.”
Gunther also believes he has outgrown the Intercontinental Championship. Gunther is set to defend the Intercontinental Championship against The Miz at the Survivor Series Premium Live Event on November 25th. It remains to be seen how long he will remain the Intercontinental Champion.
