Santos Escobar’s heel turn on Rey Mysterio during the November 10th episode of WWE RAW was quite a shock. Fans did not see a splintering of the faction coming, but WWE has a big plan in store for this angle.

WWE had Santos Escobar’s heel turn in the works for quite some time. Escobar continued to pursue heat over this injury, which was an effective heel turn. Rey Mysterio will be out for a number of weeks to sell that beat-down which was part of Escobar’s heel turn, but he will be back to continue things. Mysterio was also dealing with that knee injury for months prior to this angle.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE’s plan for Santos Escobar and Rey Mysterio involve a team vs team situation. Two groups will collide on the main roster, and it’s anyone’s guess what will become of the LWO branding.

“It’s gonna be group vs group. It’s gonna be Santos and some partners vs Rey with partners. I don’t know what they’re going to do with the LWO name, which side gets it. Maybe they’re even going to feud over the name, I don’t know.”

“It’s gonna be a group vs group thing. Obviously, Carlito will be with Rey and Santos will be with Cruz del Toro and Joaquin Wilde, and I don’t know where Zelina is going, and that’s the situation there.”

Considering how Zelina Vega gained so much backstage praise, it stands to reason that she may gain some of the spotlight in this angle. Cruz del Toro and Joaquin Wilde also have a new opportunity to show the WWE Universe what they can do.

We will have to see who gains ownership of the LWO. It stands to reason that WWE would want to keep them a babyface faction, considering how much merchandise they have moved. That being said, anything can happen in this explosive storyline.
