Gunther is in the middle of an iconic run as the Intercontinental Champion in WWE. The Ring General continues to dominate the competition and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon. That being said, Gunther believes he has outgrown the title.
The Ring General won the WWE Intercontinental Championship in June last year and has since defended it quite a few times already. With each win, Gunther’s stock continues to rise and he becomes more and more dominating.
He is already the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in history, but no one has been able to truly step up to time so far. While speaking WrestlingNews.co, Gunther was asked about the Intercontinental Championship being in the main event of night one of WrestleMania 40 next year.
Gunther shot down that idea and noted that Rollins earned his spot there. That said, Gunther added that he believes he has outgrown the title and is ready to take the next step.
“That’s not gonna happen. But I think there’s a ranking system and everything for a reason. I think it’s quite obvious that I outgrew the Intercontinental Championship already, I am ready to make that next step.”
Gunther is set to defend the Intercontinental Championship against The Miz at the Survivor Series Premium Live Event on November 25th. We’ll have to see who will end up dethroning The Austrian star in the end.
