Sting entered AEW as a WWE Hall of Famer, and he had that black and white face paint as well. That wasn’t his only look, and as his retirement approaches at AEW Revolution next year, there is a call to see one of his classic looks once again.

While speaking on What Happened When, Tony Schiavone commented on Ric Flair’s arrival in AEW. He said it was a surreal experience, which is one way to put it. Many fans were shocked, but this blast from the past with Sting and Ric Flair brought back more memories.

Tony Schiavone also stated that he would like to see Sting return to the gimmick that made him famous, the Surfer Sting character. His brightly-colored face paint and spiked blonde hair may return if Schiavone has anything to say about it.

“It was surreal, it really was, and I was really thrilled about doing it. I was talking to Sting on Saturday when we were in Oakland, and we were giving each other a hard time, as you do. There were a bunch of guys standing around, and I said, ‘Yeah, I remember the first time I stuck the microphone in front of Sting at TBS Studios. Sting rolled down, he was so blown up he couldn’t get words out. He was [breathing heavy].’ Sting says, ‘I don’t remember that.’ I said, ‘It’s on video if you’d like me to pull it up.’ Both have been such phenomenal performers, and I’ve said this many times, I’m honored to be tied to them in some way.

“You look online and see a lot of photos of Ric Flair, it’s me holding a microphone. That’s very special to me. I really would like for Sting, for his last match, to come out at Surfer Sting. Blonde hair, spike it up. It would be great. A lot of people would love to see it. Maybe we can convince him to do it.”

We will have to see if Surfer Sting returns. He has played with his face paint a couple of times since joining AEW, but fans haven’t seen that face paint return. He did change things up for one match with CM Punk, and on a few other occasions, so fans may have to keep their hopes up about seeing Surfer Sting again.

Sting was able to re-invent his character, as he returned with a Crow-inspired gimmick to battle the nWo decades ago. He kept that look for the most part, only changing to WolfPac sting for a bit. Only time will tell if fans see Surfer Sting again.

What’s your take on Surfer Sting? Would be good to see that gimmick come back on Sting’s retirement run? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
