Former WWE Superstar Refused To Lose Match On AEW Rampage

The pro wrestling world can be a complicated place to operate at times. There are a lot of big egos around, and other times decisions are made for much deeper, political reasons. Now it appears we have another instance of a very interesting situation where someone refused to lose.

As reported by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there were intentions to feature a bout between Metalik and Komander on the said episode. However, the match was ultimately scrapped, allegedly due to Metalik’s reported reluctance to accept a defeat.

Sean Sapp posted behind Fightful’s paywall to provide a bit more detail about what went down in this situation. It seems that there could be some politics in play, but AEW also understood where Gran Metalik was coming from.

The show aired with only three matches, which was the original plan, as it was clarified to us there was never a plan to run four matches. Fightful Select was told that the original plan was a four-way match involving Lince Dorado, Penta El Zero Miedo, Komander, and Metalik, but became a three-way due to Lince’s ties to CMLL. Metalik was planned to lose the three-way, but didn’t want to continue to lose matches without being under a full-time deal. AEW indicated that they understood his position, and booked Konosuke Takeshita vs. Kyle Fletcher instead.

Pro wrestling takes cooperation from everyone involved to make things work. Sometimes a wrestler has to stick to their guns, and they cannot be convinced otherwise. Sadly, this kept Gran Metalik from being a part of AEW Rampage.
