WWE is going through a lot of changes, both in a corporate sense, and with their television partners. Things are shuffling around, and that could be good news for fans on the West Coast.
WWE’s decision to transition from FOX to the USA Network has been officially confirmed, cemented by a recently inked five-year agreement. Those new television deals are huge, and reflective of WWE’s current business boom.
Previously, SmackDown was broadcast on the USA Network from 2016 to 2019, before it found its home on FOX. This shift is scheduled to take effect in October 2024 and ensures that the blue brand will remain on the USA Network until 2029.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer highlighted an important change in the show’s scheduling. For the first time, SmackDown will be aired live on the West Coast, though the specific broadcast day remains undisclosed. Historically, the show has been scheduled on both Tuesday and Thursday nights.
“One of the things that they did get, which is also going to be interesting, is that SmackDown will be live on the West Coast for the first time, I think, ever. I don’t think it’s ever been live on the West Coast. So it’s going to be airing from 5 to 7 on the West Coast. Whether it’s Friday night or another night remains to be seen.”
It was also reported that WWE RAW might find a surprising new home for their next television contract. A lot of things may change for WWE fans with this next crop of television contracts, but the important part is that WWE isn’t going to slow down in the slightest as they continue with their future in sight.
