The CW is getting NXT in October 2024. That will be a big move for the brand, but the pro wrestling world is full of intriguing television rights deals.
The announcement was made that WWE NXT would be making its way to the CW Network sparked a lot of stories and anticipation. Additionally, there had been ongoing rumors regarding CW’s interest in acquiring the NWA brand.
Haus Of Wrestling reports that besides the NWA and WWE NXT, CW had engaged in discussions with at least two other “notable” wrestling promotions. That being said, Tony Khan has not talked to the CW about any ROH deal, because he is waiting until AEW’s television rights deals come up in 2024.
“From what we understand, Khan did not pursue talks with The CW as he refuses to seriously entertain new deals for ROH until AEW TV rights are in play, which will be in 2024. Khan feels that by waiting, he will have more options and leverage in the marketplace. It was noted to Haus of Wrestling that Khan found the CW executive to be very pleasant and someone he enjoyed visiting with, but it was just not the right time to make a deal.”
A senior executive from CW reportedly broached the subject with AEW President Tony Khan at the Los Angeles Forum in June 2022. The discussion centered on the possibility of bringing Ring of Honor content to the network.
We will have to see what AEW does with their next television rights talks. Warner Bros Discovery was said to be a front-runner to secure WWE RAW’s next television deal, and that was incredibly interesting that AEW’s home got so far along with those talks.
