WWE Superstars will sometimes have a story behind their name. Piper Niven has a story of her own, and she recently shared the backstory of her ring name in response to an inquisitive fan.
Piper Niven, who is currently partnered with Chelsea Green to hold the tag team championship, made the decision to become Green’s new partner on the August 14 episode of WWE Raw. This decision was prompted by the injury suffered by Green’s previous tag team partner, Sonya Deville.
One fan posted on X to say, “I obviously get where the Piper name comes from but what about the name Niven? If you don’t want to answer, I’m not ”one of those people “ that demands answers from people.” Piper Niven saw that, and she chimed in.
Piper Niven made her WWE debut during the 2017 Mae Young Classic, marking a transition from her former independent wrestling ring name, Viper. She was recently questioned about the choice of her last name on Twitter, and she provided a response to clarify the matter.
It’s my Dads (stepdad but he raised me so I consider him my real dad) name, it’s usually passed down through the family as a middle name so I decided to take it on as my stage name to keep it going. It’s a very old name that means little saint.
We will have to see what is next for Piper Niven. She is still making waves as 1/2 of the Women’s Tag Team Champions, so only time will tell how much she is able to in WWE from this point on.
What’s your take on WWE booking Piper Niven as 1/2 of the Women’s Tag Team Champions? Is she better off on her own? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
