WWE has a rich history of having many different people in the locker room. Sometimes people won’t get along, and that is even true when it comes to current Superstars and retired legends.
WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER recently disclosed that he has genuine tension with Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart. This will not result in anything in the ring, but Hart is still around to comment on social media and in interviews.
GUNTHER recently made an appearance on WWE’s The Bump alongside fellow Imperium member Ludwig Kaiser. During their discussion, they covered various topics, including GUNTHER’s title reign, the dominance of their faction, and the rapport between them as wrestlers. Towards the end, the hosts asked for their opinions on some former Intercontinental Champions.
One of the names brought up in the final segment was WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart. The Ring General commended the former World Champion for his wrestling skills. However, while maintaining his character, the Imperium leader mentioned that Hart had expressed his displeasure with certain aspects of GUNTHER’s match against Sheamus. He then made it very clear that he did not want to discuss anything further about the Hitman, citing his memory of those comments, because he doesn’t forget.
“I think it is obvious that in-ring, he is one of the best to ever do it. Very enjoyable. He was very popular in Germany and Austria when I was growing up. He was a big superstar there. But as Ludwig said before, I don’t forget. And [what] that man said at my match in Cardiff and was not mentioning nice things after that. So, he is not going to get anything nice from me. Too bad he is not in the state anymore to settle this in the ring. It would have been very interesting.”
In the most recent episode of Monday Night RAW, a Fatal Four-Way Match took place to determine the next challenger for GUNTHER’s Intercontinental Championship. The competitors in this match were The Miz, Ricochet, Ivar, and Bronson Reed, all vying for the opportunity to contend for the title. In the end, a botched finish resulted in WWE changing up their plans for next week’s RAW.
We will have to see how WWE books this, but it appears that both Ivar and The Miz will battle GUNTHER for the IC Title at Survivor Series. Only time will tell how much longer The Ring General’s time as champion lasts.
