Pro wrestling is full of unpredictable moments, which is one of the reasons fans keep coming back for more. The NWA recently tried a bit too hard to garner attention, and it blew up negatively.

It was previously reported that the NWA may have tainted their deal with the CW over that cocaine spot at the NWA’s recent PPV event, Samhain. Then the CW was announced as NXT’s new home, starting in October 2024. Billy Corgan denied any issues over the segment.

The James Mitchell cocaine spot certainly grabbed a lot of attention, as pro wrestling fans didn’t know what to think about that blatant display of illegal drug use. Eric Bischoff saw the angle, and he couldn’t believe it, either.

During his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff went off on the NWA’ drug-filled angle. He grilled the company for allowing such a controversial thing to air on their programming as well.

“You know you’re drawing attention to yourselves — you’ve got people dropping dead in the streets for snorting blow from fentanyl. I don’t know, man. I don’t know Billy Corgan. I had lunch with him, and spent a little bit of time with him, but that was just flat-out freaking stupid.”

Especially since you’re trying to emerge on YouTube and you’re trying to get a television deal. You feel that strongly about a cocaine spot, which by the way didn’t get anybody over anyway. What was the purpose of it? You’re going to get Jim Mitchell over? Are you kidding me? That guy hasn’t been over in the 20 years he’s been in the business. How is this going to make a difference? The more I think about it, the more pissed off I get, because it’s the kind of thing that really damages the reputation of pro wrestling on television.’

That cocaine spot didn’t win any fans over. It got a ton of attention, but it wasn’t the kind the NWA was after. Hopefully, Billy Corgan learned a very valuable lesson in this whole situation.

We will have to see if the NWA captures any headlines in the future for positive reasons. A lot of fans were talking about Billy Corgan’s company recently, but it wasn’t for a good reason.
