WWE has their eye on the entire pro wrestling world, and it appears that they are very close to bringing in another name that broke out as a big success in Japan. They just brought Kairi Sane back, but WWE may not be done recruiting from Japan. Giulia has a lot of attention on her, and she is also on WWE’s radar in a big way.
PW Insider reports that sources in Japan have verified WWE’s efforts to recruit the current New Japan Strong Women’s Champion, Giulia. They are hoping to secure her signature for the company. Giulia, a member of the current Artist of Stardom Champions, Donna del Mondo, made her debut for the Ice Ribbon promotion in 2017 after undergoing training under Mio Shirai.
Giulia is 29-years-old, and her debut for World Wonder Stardom took place in 2019, where she was officially announced as having signed with the promotion. She has been a central figure in the promotion, holding titles such as the World of Stardom Championship, the Wonder of Stardom title, and the Goddess of Stardom Championship. She is currently participating in the Goddess of Stardom Tag League with Thekla. Besides her remarkable in-ring abilities, Giulia possesses exceptional charisma and presence, making her a highly sought-after acquisition for WWE. Losing her would be a significant setback for STARDOM, to say the least.
One source has told the outlet that discussions have progressed to the point where Giulia is expected to visit the WWE Performance Center sometime this month. That is a very good step in the right direction for WWE.
STARDOM, like New Japan Pro Wrestling, is under the ownership of Bushiroad, which has facilitated Giulia’s appearances in New Japan Pro Wrestling, including her victory in the New Japan Strong Women’s Championship. She became the second champion by defeating Willow Nightingale. Earlier this year, she participated in the Multiverse United 2 event co-promoted by NJPW and Impact Wrestling in Philadelphia. She recently defeated Hyan at a New Japan Strong event in Las Vegas and also worked for STARDOM earlier this week.
It had long been believed that Giulia’s title win would set the stage for a showdown with Mercedes Mone once she returned from injury. Banks even teased this match in the past, but it hasn’t been booked. Whether that match takes place under the New Japan banner remains uncertain.
We will have to see what happens with Giulia in the future. She could have a big opportunity with WWE if she wants to take them up on an offer. That being said, she has also solidified herself as a top name in Japan at this point.
