Cody Rhodes has been enjoying a successful run since his return at WrestleMania 38. He is no longer part of AEW now but that doesn’t mean the company didn’t try to book him for another great match before his departure. Rhodes has now revealed he was offered to face Sting in his last AEW match.

In February 2022, Cody Rhodes made a surprising exit from AEW, leaving fans in astonishment. Before his departure, he had played a pivotal role in AEW, contributing to the growth of the promotion and helping elevate several talents with his impressive in-ring performances.

While speaking to Sports Illustrated, The American Nightmare talked about Sting’s final run in AEW. Cody Rhodes revealed that he was offered to face Sting in his last AEW match.

The last match I was offered in AEW was that match. It wasn’t confirmed or anything like that, but just the little I had to do with his debut there is a wonderful memory. I was a little Stinger. Maybe I’ll pull out a Stinger Splash in his honor. Seriously, cheers to a wonderful career.”

Sting will be ending his in-ring career at AEW Revolution next year, so there are a few months left until that. It remains to be seen how Sting will be booked in the coming months, as his retirement draws near.
