Corey Graves Thought John Cena Hated Him Thanks To Long-Running Prank

John Cena has seen a lot in the pro wrestling business, and it’s no secret that the industry has a rich history of pranks. Those ribs can be done inside or outside the ring, and they’re usually good for a laugh. It turns out that one prank still sticks in Corey Graves’ mind so many years later.

While appearing on the After the Bell podcast, John Cena went into a few interesting subjects. He revealed what this current era of WWE lacks to define itself. He also got into some personal history with Corey Graves.

Corey Graves explained the whole story, and how Colt Cabana convince him that John Cena hated his guts. This story took place a long time ago, and it’s great they were able to hash things out on Graves’ podcast.

“I have a funny, personal story … I was on the indies and I would get booked as an extra for WWE, and I was in Chicago, and it was the first time I encountered [John Cena] and we were from afar in catering, and we made eye contract very briefly, and there was nothing said or exchanged, because we were at a distance. Colt Cabana was with me, and he goes, ‘what did you do to Cena?’ I go, ‘I don’t know man, I got that stare.’ And he goes, ‘Cena hates you.'”

“It became this ongoing rib, and it was one of those things that I expected, it was in my head. So, then on any time I saw [John Cena] years down the road, I’d always think ‘this guy hates me,’ even though he had no idea who I even am, but Cabana ribbed me for years on that, and it became the ‘John Cena Death Stare.'”

John Cena went on to confirm that he does not hate Corey Graves, and he never did. This was simply a rib from Colt Cabana that had a lot of gas in the tank, because it lasted for a long time after that.

It’s good that they were able to clear this up. It’s anyone’s guess how different things would be if they never had a chance to put this out there and squash the idea that Colt Cabana implanted into Corey Graves’ head that the 16x World Champion gave him a “death stare.“
