Big E had quite a run in WWE, and he even picked up the company’s biggest title in the process. Through it all, fans certainly miss him, and they are wondering then he will make a return to the ring. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like that answer is available yet.
On March 11th, 2022, during a match on SmackDown, Big E took an overhead Belly-to-Belly Suplex from Ridge Holland. Big E experienced a mishap that led to him landing on the top of his head. This unfortunate incident resulted in a broken neck. To be more precise, he sustained fractures in both his C1 and C2 vertebrae. While this was undoubtedly a tragic occurrence, considering his size and age, it could have potentially resulted in a more severe, life-altering, or even fatal injury.
Busted Open Radio, Big E was asked if there was any update regarding a potential return to competition. At this point, he doesn’t have that information, as much as he wishes that wasn’t the case.
“I wish I had more information for you. Right now, there is really no timeline. I’ve been to a few different doctors who have looked over my scans. I don’t have any issues, I feel great, but I broke my C1 in two different places, it’s called a Jefferson fracture and because of the nature of the fracture, it takes longer to heal.”
“Initially, they told me three months. I thought three months and I would be back to wrestling, but things ended up being more complex. There are chances I might take with a broken forearm or finger. An ACL (injury), I’ve had before. I started wrestling when I was 23, and at the time, I was like, ‘If I die in the ring, doing what I love, so be it.’ I’m 37 now and you see life differently and you have other things to think about. I’m trying to make the best decision for myself and my health moving forward. I don’t have any answers.”
We’ll have to see when Big E makes his return to the ring. Hopefully, that will happen, because he seems to be in good shape, happy, and ready to get back in front of the fans. If anything, his participation in WWE’s weekly television shows could be a great benefit for them in a non-wrestling capacity.
