AEW made a habit of signing big names who were available for Tony Khan, but fans were shocked to see him bring in Sting. The WWE Hall of Famer had quite a run in AEW, but he is wrapping things up at AEW Revolution next year, which will mark the end of his pro wrestling career.
Sting is gearing up for his retirement from the world of professional wrestling, which is scheduled to take place at the upcoming AEW Revolution pay-per-view event. Although the exact date of the event is yet to be announced, AEW Revolution typically occurs in either February or March.
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Sting shared his intention to officially hang up his wrestling boots in the coming month as he prepares to close this chapter of his storied wrestling career.
“I wanted to finish earlier, maybe in December. But now that Ric is here with me, I want to go longer, all the way to Revolution. All I can say for now is I want people to walk away and say, ‘Wow, what an ending. I’ll be three weeks away from turning 65 at that point. I want to leave people with a memory that will mean something.”
Sting made his debut in AEW back in 2020 after being medically sidelined in WWE due to spinal stenosis. WWE fans actually didn’t even realize that Sting left WWE until Mattel cancelled one of his action figures from an upcoming line at the time. Since joining AEW, he has formed a successful partnership with Darby Allin and participated in several memorable matches.
We will have to see how AEW books Sting’s final few months in pro wrestling. It’s unclear how often he will wrestle, but Tony Khan will probably do everything in his power to make it a very special experience for fans and The Stinger.
