WWE has seen many rivalries throughout the years, and John Cena has been a part of many fantastic matches. They call him the Greatest of all Time for a reason, but he needed suitable opponents along the way to make that happen.
John Cena and Randy Orton’s rivalry was a prominent storyline in WWE that showcased the two wrestlers as rivals. This rivalry commenced in 2007 and continued sporadically until 2014. Throughout this period, Cena and Orton frequently found themselves in the main event spotlight at various pay-per-view events, frequently contending for the WWE Championship.
The matches featuring John Cena and Randy Orton received acclaim from fans and experts alike. Nevertheless, the recurrence of this feud faced criticism from certain quarters for being somewhat repetitive and losing its freshness. While speaking to WWE’s YouTube channel, Cena broke down his match against Randy Orton at 2009’s Bragging Rights pay-per-view, and just how wild things got.
“Any time I can get in the ring with Randy, it’s great. He and I fit together well, and I love working with him. This is the 4th premium live event, and we’d done a lot of stipulations before, like anything goes, No DQ, if I lose, I leave RAW. One could speculate that possible audience fatigue of watching performers together for half a year … that’s a lot of interaction, that’s a lot.”
“So, I do remember the concept that maybe he should hit the pyro and try to explode me, and him being okay with it, and not only being okay with it, but he really made that work. I think that just goes to show that if we were coming up with concepts like that we had certainly exhausted every method of competition.”
Although John Cena and Randy Orton had tried everything else they could, they were still game for a pyro explosion angle. That was quite an interesting direction, but they made it done.
John Cena went on to say that “Randy Orton is this generation’s Shawn Michaels.” He attributed Orton’s timing and storytelling to that comparison, along with his dependability. Obviously, John Cena still has amazing things to say about The Viper.
Despite any criticism, the rivalry between John Cena and Randy Orton stands out as one of the most enduring and unforgettable feuds in the careers of both wrestlers and in the history of WWE.
