MJF is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in the world of professional wrestling right now thanks to his incredible character work and in-ring skills. He had an exceptional match with Kenny Omega on Collision last week, but Eric Bischoff questioned the booking behind the match.
MJF defended the AEW World Championship against Kenny Omega in the main event of last week’s episode of AEW Collision. It turned out to be as excellent as fans expected, with both competitors giving it their all in the ring in order to win.
In the end, MJF defeated Omega and confirmed that he would become the longest-reigning AEW World Champion in history. Despite the quality of the match, it failed to help with AEW Collision’s ratings.
While speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff talked about MJF squaring off against Kenny Omega. Bischoff questioned why Tony Khan booked the match without any buildup and story, despite the fact that the show was up against the World Series and college football.
”With no advanced promotion, no story. Just announce and do it. I’m not gonna be critical about it being put on live TV for obvious reasons, because Tony Khan has to service their client. Their client is the network, but here’s where I have questions.
If you’re going to put MJF and Omega on free TV, to do it on a Saturday night when you’re up against Game 2 of the World Series and college football, you know you’re gonna get your ass handed to you.
To make that match on a Saturday night against that kind of competition, when you know no matter what you do, you’re going to get your ass handed to you – that makes me question it even more. I mean it’s bad enough to put that match on television without any build up, no storyline. No one in the world could answer the question – why is this match happening? Other than making some indie-rific b******.
It just makes no sense. If you’re going to do it on free TV without any story and buildup, why do it on a Saturday night against Game 2? Not like that that was surprise. You know you’re up against college football. I don’t know, I have questions.”
MJF is set to defend his AEW World Championship against Jay White at the Full Gear pay-per-view next month. We will have to wait and see how the match will turn out, as fans want MJF to successfully retain the title.
