Sting is preparing to wrap up his career in AEW, and his last match will be at Revolution 2024. Fans only have a few chances left to see Sting perform, and they will enjoy it while they can. That being said, Tony Khan could have something big cooked up for the Stinger’s send-off.
Former WWE writer Vince Russo recently talked about Ric Flair possibly returning to wrestling in AEW during the Wrestle Binge podcast. This idea has created a lot of buzz in the pro wrestling world. People have been speculating about Flair’s involvement in AEW’s upcoming events.
Sting made his AEW debut in 2020 and had his first match at Revolution 2021. This was a significant moment because it had been over five years since his last match in WWE in 2015. Vince Russo, however, expressed some concerns about Sting’s time in AEW. He mentioned that Sting had already achieved a lot in his wrestling career before joining Tony Khan’s AEW.
Vince Russo said, “I was saying this all along as a fan and a friend, my God, he had nothing left to prove to anybody.” He also wondered if Sting’s involvement in high-risk matches, similar to Darby Allin’s style, was an attempt to connect with a younger audience or fit in with the AEW locker room.
In Vince Russo’s opinion, Sting’s journey in AEW might not have been necessary given his legendary status in the wrestling world. Russo also stirred the pot by suggesting that Ric Flair might be returning to the ring in the near future. This speculation gained momentum after Tony Khan presented Flair as a ‘gift’ to Sting during AEW Dynamite.
“Sting would have every reason in the world not to do it, bro. He’s not going to be able to say no. If you’re seeing Flair rubbing elbows with Tony Khan and in the same breath “I got one more,” that’s the one [against Sting].
Vince Russo seemed excited about the possibility of seeing Ric Flair face Sting one more time. He couldn’t imagine Tony Khan passing up the opportunity for a match between these two wrestling icons.
Tony Khan has been involved in booking a lot of angles, and some of them have generated buzz. There is no doubt that booking Ric Flair vs Sting would blow the pro wrestling world wide open, but it’s anyone’s guess what Tony Khan’s plan is to wrap up Sting’s legendary career.
