Jon Moxley remains one of the top stars in AEW as the company heavily relies upon him whenever it is in a pinch. He also does things to the beat of his own drum and is truly unpredictable when he wants to be. Before AEW came calling, Moxley claimed that he was prepared to wrestle in a mask in a Mexican parking lot, among other things.
After leaving WWE, Jon Moxley debuted at AEW Double Or Nothing 2019 and has become one of the mainstays of the company since then. After all, he is already a 3-time AEW World Champion and one of the best signings AEW has ever made.
While speaking to The Messenger, The Purveyor of Violence was asked about his mindset before his WWE departure. Moxley claimed that he was prepared to wrestle in a mask in a Mexican parking lot if it meant he could have fun, prior to AEW reaching out to him.
“The timing of it was crazy. I was gone one way or another. I was going to give it all up. I didn’t give a f— if I was never on TV again. I’d go wrestle in a f***** mask in Mexico in a parking lot if it means having fun again.
I hate speaking in the third person because it feels so f***** pretentious, but speaking from a character standpoint, it just makes it easier. But it was like as Jon Moxley was getting his release date from jail and walking into the world again, it just happened to be when AEW was starting.
If there was no AEW, I think I’d be doing the exact same thing, just in a bunch of other places. You’d probably see me in f****** Japan or Revolver, places like that. It probably wouldn’t be that much different.”
Jon Moxley is already cleared for in-ring competition after suffering a concussion earlier this year. Regardless, Moxley is more than happy that he decided to sign with AEW and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
