Triple H has control of WWE after Endeavor “knighted” him, and that removed Vince McMahon from the situation. Although Vince is no longer booking the show, he had one last run with creative where he made many changes remotely.
During his Backstage Report podcast behind Fightful’s paywall, Sean Sapp opened up a bit about Vince McMahon losing control of power in WWE. It was noted that a lot of those changes didn’t even go through the creative team, because Vince was calling them all in.
That being said, Vince McMahon was blocking some Superstars from getting booked on the show as well. These changes may be minimal for some, but they are substantial to others.
“The changes seemed overnight. Even though Vince McMahon didn’t interact directly with creative this year, which means, a guy like Ryan Ward or Rob Fee or names you might know on the creative team didn’t have interactions with Vince McMahon to the best of our knowledge.”
“A lot of those changes may have looked minimal to the creative team, I’m told, but to others it wasn’t so minimal, because there were certain talent who weren’t being used because Vince McMahon didn’t want to use, so they couldn’t use them, therefore a lot of their creative couldn’t be changed.”
It was also said that, “When McMahon learned of creative plans, he would make remote adjustments along the way, and he would indicate wrestlers he did or didn’t want on the show.”
A lot of things were nixed, but there is a feeling that matches like Ivar and Kofi Kingston’s recent Viking Rules Match was a sign of things to come, and that creative has seen a definite shift with Triple H in control.
We will have to see what happens next in WWE. At this point, it seems that Triple H has control of things, and he is booking the company in his own vision. Only time will tell what changes in the future, but this could be quite a ride for WWE.
