AEW has signed up a lot of former WWE Superstars, but Eric Young had other plans for his career. After WWE cut him once again, Young went back to Impact Wrestling, and he doesn’t seem to regret making that decision at all.

Eric Young has shared the straightforward reason behind his decision to return to IMPACT Wrestling instead of heading to AEW following his departure from WWE in early 2023. Tony Khan’s company may have been an option, but he didn’t take it.

Eric Young initially rejoined WWE in November 2022, although he did not make any television appearances and eventually requested his release in April 2023.

Regarding his release, Young clarified that he couldn’t remain with WWE because he “would’ve had to answer to somebody that I’m just not willing to.”

With both AEW and IMPACT Wrestling expressing interest in Young, he recently discussed his choice to return to his former wrestling home in an interview with Haus of Wrestling.

“I talked with some friends there and people that I trust, and Tony had kind of mentioned that he was interested, but it just never materialized.

“And the truth is, I’m just going to get lost in the ether and in the mix like 60 other people there, right? The truth is, I don’t have his confidence. Me and him aren’t close in any way, shape, or form.

“I’m kind of replacing one set of problems for another, and I have nothing against Tony Khan.

“From everything I know, he’s a very nice man. I met him a couple of times in passing. He treats the wrestlers with respect, he pays them very well and is a very respectful man and a kind man. So, it’s nothing against the product or nothing against him.

“It’s just not my place. IMPACT Wrestling is my home, and that’s where I wanted to be. So that’s where I am.”

Eric Young is now with Impact Wrestling, and he will remain with the company as they make the transition back to TNA Wrestling. Only time will tell what he does next in TNA, but he certainly seems confident about his choice.

Tony Khan may have been able to use Eric Young in a big way, but EY didn’t entertain that idea for long. Keep checking back with Ringside News for more updates on this story, and so many more in the pro wrestling world.
