CM Punk was fired from AEW after his backstage altercation with Jack Perry at All In London, one that allegedly involved Punk sucker punching Perry. That being said, a new story popped up about the Second City Savior this morning that was a bit confusing.
A report is going around today saying that AEW is talking about buying out CM Punk’s contract. That story was true a year ago, because that’s when we first reported it. The fact is that it turned out AEW wasn’t interested in buying out CM Punk’s contract. The reason that story is getting more traction today lies on the fact that Wrestling Observer Radio uploaded the wrong episode this morning.
Fans have seen a few stories circulate this morning that came from the October 22nd, 2022 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. This also includes Chris Jericho contract news that he is actually in his third deal with the company. Both of those stories were featured in the episode one year ago today.
Dates can be confusing, but it’s pretty obvious that there is no talk of buying out CM Punk’s AEW contract. There is no contract, since he was fired from the company after AEW All In London. It should be noted that Ringside News didn’t pick up that story.
Wrestling Observer Radio did have an episode this morning, and Ringside News has covered a couple stories from it. To access today’s episode, fans must change the “2022” in the URL to “2023,” and then the correct episode for October 22, 2023, will start playing.
