Impact Wrestling presented Bound For Glory on October 21st, and they were TNA Wrestling once again by the time the night was over. Ace Steel was also around as a producer on the show, but they almost had other plans for him.
Ace Steel was brought in by Impact Wrestling (now TNA) for Bound for Glory, the promotion’s biggest annual event, to evaluate his potential as a producer. Steel had a prior stint with AEW, but his relationship with the company took a downturn about a year ago. This change in their association was triggered by an incident during AEW All Out, involving CM Punk, who advocated for AEW to rehire Steel after his release due to his role in the All Out brawl.
Despite working remotely during his second run, Ace Steel’s time with AEW came to an end after CM Punk’s release. There was initial consideration of a surprise appearance by Steel in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet match, but this idea was ultimately discarded. There were surprises during the gauntlet match, but Ace Steel was not one of them.
Concerns arose that Ace Steel’s presence might lead live fans to speculate that CM Punk was about to make an appearance, a scenario that the organizers didn’t want to inadvertently suggest. After all, plenty of fans had already formed that narrative.
It is important to note that CM Punk was not present at the event, as he was attending the Chicago Blackhawks’ home opener instead. Only time will tell when we see CM Punk next.
