John Cena’s return to WWE was a big surprise for fans who weren’t expecting to see him come back. That whole thing was facilitated by the SAG-AFTRA Strike, as Hollywood came to a standstill. His future with WWE is unclear after the strike is over, but WWE was able to get an additional appearance out of the 16x World Champion before he leaves again.

As Ringside News exclusively reported, talks of John Cena’s WWE return started at the beginning of the SAG-AFTRA Strike. Now that the strike has a light at the end of the tunnel, it appears that there are a lot of questions.

Sean Sapp was asked about John Cena’s current status during a Q&A behind his paywall. He stated that it’s unknown what John Cena will do next, as this fan specifically questioned whether WWE expects him to stick around until the actors strike is totally over.

“That’s what WWE certainly believes, but they definitely have him, at least, through these appearances through October. He is set for tonight’s SmackDown. He is set for next week’s SmackDown … then after that it is question marks.”

“After that they’re doing Hamburg Germany and Berlin and London, all that stuff, but as a result of him being on the October 27th show, he will also be on the November 3rd show, because they’re doing a double taping that night.”

It was also noted that WWE expects to keep John Cena around for all of his advertised dates. That doesn’t seem to be the issue, but John Cena was in the middle of a big budget project before the strike started, and that production will need to start back immediately after the strike is over.

Only time will tell how many more times John Cena returns to WWE before he retires 100%. At this point, that doesn’t seem to be part of the conversation.
