Sting had a big announcement for fans in Texas this week during AEW Dynamite. Revolution 2024 will be his final match in pro wrestling, and he will end things on his own terms. There was no shortage of reactions after Sting’s announcement, and Eric Bischoff is happy for him.
AEW was able to give Sting a platform where he could compete, and help younger talent for a couple of years before he decided to end things. That day will finally come at Revolution 2024.
During the latest episode of Strictly Business podcast, Eric Bischoff went into Sting’s retirement announcement. He is very happy that the Stinger is going to end things on his own terms, at Revolution 2024.
“Happy for him. I think anytime somebody who has been in the public eye, and in a career like professional wrestling in particular, has an opportunity to end their career the way they want to under their own terms, that’s always a great thing. I’m happy for Steve Borden, I’m happy for the fans who’ve been a fan of the character Sting for a long time. When it plays out really well and is all said and done, Steve Borden is sitting on a rocking chair in Dallas, Texas watching the sun set, where he can look back at this part of his career and smile, because that’s what it’s all about.”
Eric Bischoff also went on to talk about the possibility of viewership increasing in All Elite Wrestling during Sting’s retirement tour. After all, this may be a good draw for AEW if they can promote it properly.
“Hard to say, depends what they do. What’s the build up look like, is there a story leading up to it, how much promotion does it get, how much attention does it get? Remains to be seen. Do I think it can? Absolutely, I think it can. Do I think it will? Who knows, we’ll find out.”
The Great Muta’s retirement tour featured some amazing competitors, including Sting. That being said, Muta won’t be around for Sting’s last matches, at least that’s not likely.
Only time will tell how AEW books Sting during his final run. AEW Revolution does not have a solid date yet, but we know what it will mark the end of a historic career in pro wrestling.
