The Rock is still one of the biggest celebrities on the planet, but he doesn’t have any time for WWE these days. With WrestleMania coming up in a few months, the rumors about The Great One’s return are churning in the rumor mill once again.

Ringside News reached out to confirm that there are still no plans for The Rock to make a return for any WrestleMania run. We were told that “The Rock is always going to want rumors out there about him, so that it appears as though there’s all this desire for him to headline, which he thinks increases his value.” That being said, there is no WrestleMania 40 match in The Great One’s future.\

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now weighed in on the situation. In his writing, Dave Meltzer backed up Ringside News’ previous reporting that was previously supported by Sports Illustrated’s own report.

The Rock might wrestle at WrestleMania 40 if he wants to, but right now that match is not booked. There is also a very strong belief within WWE that Dwayne Johnson will be so busy once the strike ends that booking him at WrestleMania is not happening.

“Regarding the stories that WWE won’t do Rock vs. Reigns at Mania if Rock wants to do it, what we were told is this. If he wants the spot I can’t believe WWE would turn him down but after Johnson turned it down last year, nobody is going with the idea he’s going to do it this year. The match is not scheduled, unlike at this time last year when the match was considered a good shot. The belief is that Johnson will have plenty of work once the strikes are over he’ll have plenty to do. What we were told is that Rock is not going to come back and win the title. I’d never anticipate that would be an issue as if the match was to happen, I always figured Reigns to win and Rock then retiring in the ring.”

The Rock was booked for WrestleMania 39 at one point. Ringside News reported in 2021 that he was a virtual lock for that event, and he later confirmed that. WWE fans will have to wait even longer to see The Rock wrestle again, if that’s even in the cards.

Ringside News also reported on the most likely top feuds coming in the pipeline. The Rock is not factored into any of those plans, but The People’s Champion also does what he wants. If he calls Triple H up and says he wants to become a full-time Superstar again for a return run, that would be impossible to pass up.

Dwayne Johnson drummed up a lot of attention when he said on Pat McAfee’s show that he is open to a match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. That is not happening unless something drastic takes place.
