CM Punk is always good to draw a headline and attention in the pro wrestling world. His recent AEW tenure abruptly concluded after his release in September due to a backstage altercation with Jack Perry. Tony Khan also appeared concerned for his safety during the incident.
Some think CM Punk’s AEW departure affected his reputation in the industry. However, Road Dogg doesn’t share the same view. As far as he sees things, he doesn’t have enough information to really make a decision on the matter.
During his Oh, You Didn’t Know podcast, Senior Vice President of Live Events Road Dogg Brian James mentioned that very few people were privy to backstage events in the Tony Khan-led promotion. This makes it difficult to pin the blame on anyone.
“Is his reputation damaged? That’s the question I would ask. His reputation in what? Wrestling? Come on, man! There’s so much more than wrestling. Does he have a reputation that he needs to protect? I don’t know. From everything we heard [about his time in AEW], he did come off as the negative actioneer. But was he? Because we don’t really know what happened. We didn’t see and hear everything — it’s just [that] everybody guesses and speculates.”
CM Punk and WWE are not in any kind of talks right now, as the company rejected Punk’s advances. Only time will tell what is next for the Second City Savior, but he could have interest from Impact Wrestling.
Road Dogg will keep doing his own thing, and concerning himself with WWE business. At this point in his career, that is the only thing he really needs to worry about, because CM Punk is not likely ever making his return to the company.
