Many fans even wondered if Sting would announce his retirement during the October 18th episode of AEW Dynamite. When the time finally came, the Stinger came out to address the crowd.
AEW Dynamite was quite a show on October 18th, and we have complete play-by-play coverage. The action kept up throughout the whole night in front of an excited Texas crowd.
Sting started his promo out by getting nostalgic, and then he asked, “should I say the word?” He wanted to reflect a bit before he had to say the word “retire,” even though he never said that word yet.
Sting paid homage to some of the people he wrestled over the years, including Dusty Rhodes and Hulk Hogan. Sting also gave a lot of credit to Ric Flair, as he credited the Nature Boy for putting him on the map.
Big “Thank You, Sting,” chants broke out in the crowd, and the WWE Hall of Famer said, “no, thank you.” Sting said that he understands why the older wrestlers always held on for so long.
Then he got back to “that word,” which he never said before the crowd interrupted him with “You Still Got It” chants. Sting said his retirement in 2015 “didn’t sit right” with him, and he made it clear to tell fans that nothing is for sure for him.
He addressed his retirement in Texas, live on Dynamite, despite the crowd booing the very idea of Sting hanging up his boots. Sting said his first match with AEW was Revolution in 2021, and his last match will be Revolution 2024.
He made it very clear that he will retire at Revolution in 2024. That is for sure, and he made it very clear.
