Alberto Del Rio is still able to make headlines, but that doesn’t mean WWE is interested in having him back. After all, he just recently went on a bit of a rant against WWE’s direction and their Superstars. He apparently started a new rumor about his WWE return, but that was shut down in quick fashion.

According to a note in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Alberto Del Rio stated after a match on October 5th that he was headed back to the company until Vince McMahon lost power. The outlet pointed out that Del Rio had previously expressed such intentions, but no return had ever materialized.

“Alberto El Patron wrestled on 10/5 in Aguascalientes and said it was his last match of the year due to a knee injury. Alberto is also claiming he was headed back to WWE last year until Vince McMahon lost power.”

The outlet went on to say, “he’s said that before. I wouldn’t think anyone should believe it.” It turns out that fans probably shouldn’t have believed him about a WWE return.

Sean Sapp posted an update to this story behind Fightful’s paywall. He stated that a WWE source bluntly told him that Alberto Del Rio has no chance of making a WWE return.

“According to Del Rio, he was planned for a WWE return before Vince McMahon had retired.”

“We reached out to a WWE higher up that said, ‘No f*cking chance.'”

Alberto Del Rio achieved significant success during his relatively brief WWE tenure. He won the Royal Rumble shortly after his debut, secured a Money in the Bank victory later that year, and held the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, and United States Championship twice each. That being said, his return isn’t happening.

Ringside News exclusively reported last year that Alberto Del Rio was not welcomed back in WWE. It appears that our report was right on the money, because there is seemingly no shot at Alberto’s return at this point.

We will keep a close eye on Alberto Del Rio to see if there is any momentum in his career. At this point, he is retired from MMA, but WWE doesn’t seem to be an option for him, either. Considering the fact that stories about his old toxic relationship with Saraya are still coming to light, an AEW tenure may not be possible, either.
