Brian Pillman Jr was an AEW star, but he left his contract expire. It didn’t take him long to end up in WWE, but now he has a brand-new name in NXT.
After weeks of hints about Brian Pillman Jr debuting on NXT TV, it finally happened this week on NXT. During this episode, he showcased his face and expressed himself for the first time.
After watching clips of his father’s wrestling career in WWE and WCW during the 90s, Brian Pillman Jr. rejected the Pillman name, choosing instead to adopt the King last name instead. This was the name of the man who married his mother and raised him after Brian Pillman Sr’s passing in 1997.
This confirmed an earlier report that Brian Pillman Jr’s new WWE name would be Lexis King, paying tribute to his stepfather and also his late sister Alexis, who passed away in 2009.
Brian Pillman Jr previously wrestled under the name Alex King on the independent circuit, so this change isn’t a significant departure. That being said, a lot of fans may have an issue with this new name, since they have come to know him as Brian Pillman Jr in AEW.
In response to the name change, Brian Pillman Jr shared his thoughts on X, reiterating the sentiment from the vignette and emphasizing his determination to make his own mark in WWE. With his new name, he intends on becoming the new King of NXT.
“26 years ago my father was buried, and tonight I buried his last name. I will no longer be known as the lost son living in his father’s shadow. I will forge my own path and stop at nothing until I am the King of #WWENXT.”
We will have to see what Lexis King is able to do in WWE. His father left quite a legacy for him, but it appears that he is going to reject that with his new heel character. Only time will tell how the NXT Universe reacts to Lexis King’s eventual debut.
