Jim Ross is a veteran in the pro wrestling world, as he made a name for himself as a commentator in WWE. He worked very hard during his time with the company and was part of many iconic moments, but not everything went well for him.

Ross worked in WWE for several years, which is why he knows the inner workings of the company. He has extensively worked with Vince McMahon and it has not always worked out in his favor as he has been the subject of ridicule numerous times.

Vince McMahon decided not to extend Jim Ross’ contract following his role in a controversial WWE 2K14 symposium before SummerSlam 2013. As the host of the event, Jim Ross constantly made fun of a script he had been given. He also received criticism for failing to manage an intoxicated Ric Flair on stage. It was also evident that he was intoxicated himself.

While speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer talked about the infamous 2K event. He denied being drunk during the event but admitted that he had a cocktail to drink.

”I didn’t have a clue it would end up like it did. I had too much fun, but it didn’t work out too well. I wasn’t drunk, I had a cocktail, but so did everybody else. And I don’t know if that’s a good, bad or indifferent, it’s what it was. Somebody’s gotta do the honors, somebody’s gotta put the guys over. I did my best and sacrificed, but it was not a good day at the office. I feel badly about my performance, I feel badly for how I represented myself and the company. It’s my fault.

I’m not monitoring how much somebody’s been drinking and there was a lot of drinking going on, so it wasn’t a good day.”

Jim Ross is certainly more than happy to be working under Tony Khan in AEW. Regardless, it is unlikely he will ever return to WWE and that is something fans have accepted now.
