Ricky Starks is currently one of the highlights of AEW television, and there is a good reason for that. Starks has many friends both inside and outside AEW and this includes former AEW star Jade Cargill, who joined WWE last month. Ricky Starks congratulated her on the jump and he got backlash for it. Now he decided to address the backlash he got last month.
Fans lost their minds when WWE announced they had signed Jade Cargill to multi-year contract. This was seen as a monumental deal for many, as it signaled the change in the tides for WWE.
Ricky Starks was the first person from AEW to congratulate Jade Cargill on her huge move. It wasn’t any surprise as Starks is a very close friend of Cargill’s as well. While speaking on the Battleground podcast, the Absolute One addressed the backlash he received for congratulating Jade Cargill.
”I didn’t think it was a big deal, I still don’t think it’s a big deal. I did congratulate my friend for sure, it’s no different from any other friend that they, you know, go on and get a job. It was kinda weird to see all that, but I’m used to it because when someone leaked that footage of me going to visit Cody, I got the same visceral reaction.
I probably got another visceral reaction when I thanked Punk for how Punk had treated me, right? I’m only doing these things based off my experience with them. If it doesn’t concern me, I’m not gonna talk about it. It’s weird that people get mad at me or tell me this or that when I’m speaking genuinely from the heart. I still don’t understand it.
People are gonna make up different excuses why that was a bad look, this or that. Me personally, I don’t see being proud of somebody for their efforts and what happens next in the chapter of their lives I never see it as a bad thing. I’m not one to try and argue with people that they’re wrong.”
Cargill will also be getting much higher than usual money for her WWE run. It remains to be seen whether Cargill will become the biggest star in the women’s division soon enough, as she certainly has Ricky Starks’ support.
