AEW has made a lot of interesting decisions over the years, and it appears that they’re not done yet. Collision airs on Saturday nights, and so do WWE pay-per-view events. That fact is not lost on Tony Khan at all.
AEW Collision’s October 7th episode is slated to start at 7:00PM. They made that announcement during this week’s Dynamite. There is no obvious reason for this move either, unless you consider what is going on that night in WWE.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter approached this subject, and it was noted that this move for AEW was not a call for Turner Sports. There is no sporting conflict, which would usually be the reason for such a move. The fact is that this remains a mystery, but the show, which will air from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, is not expected to do well against WWE’s premium live event.
Collision on 10/7 is actually airing from 7-9 p.m. Eastern. I don’t know why it’s being moved up, but they did mention it on television. It’s not sports related, as the movie “2012″ starts at 9 p.m. That show goes head-to-head with WWE Fastlane, so it’s likely to do a very low number.
We will have to see what happens here, because WWE could always start booking matches during their kickoff show again to battle Collision’s early start time. Obviously, shots are being fired, and there is a reason why some in WWE are seeing the early signs that this could snowball into a WCW situation.
AEW Collision has not done great numbers on WWE pay-per-view nights, but it was never expected that they would sustain an audience on those nights. Only time will tell if this tricky tactic from Tony Khan’s company might cause some fans to watch Collision and then just stay with the show until 9:00 PM.
