CM Punk was fired from AEW after his time at All In London didn’t go well. His backstage fight with Jack Perry included Punk sucker punching the former Jungle Boy. Although Punk is gone, his former partner isn’t forgetting about him, and he made it legal.

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler teamed with CM Punk a few times. They called themselves CMFTR. Although the trio never won those titles in AEW, they still made some memories on Collision before the Second City Savior was canned.

Dax Harwood recently secured a new trademark. He submitted an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on October 5 for “CMFTR,” within the category of entertainment services. Typically, such filings are associated with ring names or, in this instance, trios/tag team names. This trademark was previously used when CM Punk teamed up with FTR in AEW.

“Mark For: CMFTR™ trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestlers and sports entertainers; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestlers and sports entertainers; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestlers and sports entertainers; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; Providing online interviews featuring professional wrestlers and sports entertainers in the field of professional wrestling and sports entertainment for entertainment purposes.”

This is incredibly interesting, and we have to wonder what is going on. It is possible that this trademark just took that long to get through, and CM Punk was still with WWE when the process got started. There could be plans to continue marketing CMFTR, even after Punk’s release. Also, it is also possible that Dax Harwood filed this trademark just to make sure that nobody else could use it, or he was messing with fans, because he knew that someone would discover this trademark filing. All of those options are likely, but CM Punk’s return to AEW is not.

CM Punk still has some friends in AEW, and obviously FTR are sticking by him. That being said, it probably won’t change Tony Khan’s mind any time soon about bringing Punk back for any reason.
