WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan’s contributions to the world of professional wrestling need no introductions, as he singlehandedly became a juggernaut of the industry during the peak of his career. Therefore, it came as no surprise a Biopic starring Chris Hemsworth was in the works. Unfortunately, Hogan has just confirmed that the biopic has been scrapped.
Chris Hemsworth was set to star as Hulk Hogan in an upcoming biopic, based on the WWE Hall of Famer’s career. He had been considerably bulking up for the role as well, but fans were uncertain about the biopic’s future.
WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff was named as a producer, while Todd Phillips, Scott Silver, and John Pollono were said to be working on the film as the co-writers. However, fans grew concerned when Chris Hemsworth admitted earlier this year that he had no idea what was going on with the biopic.
While speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Hulk Hogan revealed that the biopic has been scrapped, adding that Netflix no longer owns the rights to his likeness and the story due to a business glitch.
“So it was a situation where business-wise, Netflix kind of like missed the date, you know, as far as a business situation. And so I had the choice at that time to switch gears. Scott Silver wrote the script, you know, he wrote The Joker and a bunch of different movies.
And of course, Todd Phillips has done the Joker Wolf of Wall Street and you know, whatever. All the crazy stuff that he did. But yeah, the script came back. It was amazing. I mean, because my favourite movies are like Scarface, The Godfather, True Romance, it was there, it was there.
But all of a sudden there was a business glitch, you know, and then they tried to fix it a few days later. And I’d already decided to move on.
So, my life rights and stuff are somewhere else now. And there are a lot of things that are getting ready to happen. And hopefully, Todd Phillips and Chris Hemsworth will still want to play. But there’s still a huge opportunity there.”
This is certainly unfortunate news for fans of the Hulkster who were eagerly waiting for the biopic to release one day. Regardless, fans will just have to accept the film is long gone now.
What’s your opinion on this unfortunate news? Are you disappointed the Hulk Hogan biopic has been scrapped? Sound off in the comments!
