AEW WrestleDream will go down in AEW history as one of the company’s most significant events, largely due to Adam Copeland’s earth-shattering debut. There were many factors that led to him joining AEW and it appears The Undertaker also influenced him to join the company.
The Rated R Superstar has squared off against the best of the best the world of professional wrestling has to offer and that includes WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker. The Deadman built a career by remaining relevant for three decades by changing himself.
While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Adam Copeland talked about The Undertaker’s desire to challenge himself and recreate his character and to see if he could hang with newer talent, which influenced Copeland to do the same.
“I’m driven by challenges,” said Copeland. “If you’re not, you’re not going to stick around as long as the guys who are do. There is a reason The Undertaker lasted as long as he did. He thrived on challenges, and challenged himself to recreate his character and to see if he could hang with those new talents. For me, it’s really significant to have a blank canvas at this point in my career.”
Adam Copeland also had a huge segment with Christian Cage on AEW Dynamite this week. He is set to square off against Luchasaurus on next week’s show, so we’ll have to see how his in-ring debut in AEW will turn out.
