WWE Keeps the CM Punk References Coming on RAW This Week

CM Punk debuted in AEW when no one thought it was possible, but the dream quickly turned into a nightmare for the company. Punk was fired by AEW earlier last month and since then, rumors of him making his way back to WWE have been rampant. Now it appears WWE dropped yet another CM Punk reference on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW.

Ringside News exclusively reported that CM Punk made desperate attempt to return to WWE when he was part of the WWE Backstage show a few years ago. Other reports have suggested that he was interested in returning to WWE before his AEW comeback earlier this year.

For the past few weeks, WWE has been dropping CM Punk references through Seth Rollins’ feud with Shinsuke Nakamura. During RAW this week, Michael Cole warned Seth Rollins about the impending danger he will face in his match against Shinsuke Nakamura at WWE Fastlane.

Michael Cole stated that he had coined some of Rollins’ nicknames, he took credit for calling him a “manipulator” and the “puppet master” but said that in this situation with Shinsuke Nakamura, he might be the puppet.

This was a reference to one of CM Punk’s most legendary promos in ROH back in 2005 after winning the Ring Of Honor title. This CM Punk promo was the original pipebomb for many as well.

“This is my stage. This is my theater. YOU are my puppets, and I pulled those marionette strings.”

That said, WWE doesn’t view signing CM Punk to be on the same level as Cody Rhodes. Eric Bischoff also warned CM Punk that the clock is ticking on his in-ring. Only time will tell whether The Second City Saint will make his way back to WWE somewhere down the line.
