MJF has been through a lot in his career, and he had to overcome a lot more than some people might know at first. The Devil is now able to look back at everything he had to get through, and how it made him who he is today.
MJF has opened up in the past about dealing with antisemitism, but that isn’t the only obstacle he had to overcome along the way. It turns out that he also had another issue, one that he is not shy to speak about.
In a recent WrestlePurists interview, MJF spoke openly about overcoming Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria. That is a condition that he suffers from, but he is able to get through all of the things that life throws at him.
“This is not me like messing around. I just wasn’t ready to accept love, and I know that might sound insane to anybody. I had been fucked over so many times in my life, and because of my rejection-sensitive disorder, you know, I already have my arms up at all times. I always when I leave a room, I think everyone is talking sh*t about me, always constantly, constantly in my own head.”
Rejection sensitive dysphoria is a condition that affects your capacity to manage your emotional reactions when faced with failure or rejection. Although rejection is generally uncomfortable, individuals with RSD undergo intense emotional distress in such situations. This is something that MJF understands all too well.
MJF is still going strong as AEW World Champion and 1/2 of the ROH Tag Team Champions. We will have to see how long he will be able to remain a double champion, because traveling around with all that hardware is certainly difficult at times.
