WWE released several Superstars, and over 100 employees from their headquarters, over the last couple of weeks. Matt Riddle’s name was on that list, and he is still making headlines over what led to his exit from the company.

Matt Riddle was involved in a chaotic situation at NYC’s JFK Airport while he was on his way home from WWE’s Superstar Spectacle event in India. As Ringside News exclusively reported, multiple attempts were made to de-escalate the situation with Matt Riddle before things got physical. It was also told to us that Matt Riddle appeared to be intoxicated at the time.

It was recently reported that Matt Riddle got heat in WWE for going off-script during a live promo. Ringside News reached out to confirm this story, and a tenured member of the creative team did say this happened. As it turns out, it isn’t the only thing that got Riddle heat internally.

“Yes it’s true, but that was so long ago, and he’s gotten heat for a couple of dozen other things since then as well.”

Matt Riddle’s status was unknown after that JFK Airport situation. Then he was released a short time later. This was actually a long time coming, and although he had a lot of fans, he had several incidents backstage where he burned too many chances with the company.

Matt Riddle’s ex, Daniella Petrow, suggested that his current fiancé, Misha Montana, was the start of his real problems. The drama between them is very loud and in the public eye.

The King of Bros’ ex-girlfriend dropped a post that said she had “tears of joy” after Riddle’s release. Of course, this prompted Misha Montana to tear into Riddle’s ex. We also can’t forget the controversy surrounding his leaked sex tape. That also wasn’t a good look for the Original Bro.

Of course, Matt Riddle’s time in WWE got off to a bit of a rocky start. He threw some big shade at Goldberg, someone he had buried in interviews prior to signing with WWE. The two were able to spend some “quality time” together later on.

Matt Riddle also rubbed Brock Lesnar the wrong way by publicly politicking for a match against the Beast Incarnate. Riddle was then told to stop tweeting at main roster talent like that while he was in NXT, because there were no such plans for a match, and Lesnar didn’t like it. In 2020, Riddle and Lesnar had words backstage at the Royal Rumble.

Matt Riddle could have an offer waiting for him from Impact Wrestling, and a couple MMA companies, after his WWE non-compete clause expires. We will have to wait and see where the 37-year-old pro wrestler ends up next, but his time in WWE is done for now.

What’s your take on Matt Riddle’s WWE release? Will AEW want to sign him, or is he better off in Impact Wrestling? Sound off in the comments to let us know what you think!
