Mustafa Ali had a lot of potential after his main roster debut in 2019. Unfortunately, he was mostly wasted on the main roster due to being stuck in uninteresting storylines. His NXT stint showed promise but it didn’t go anywhere as WWE ended up releasing him last week. Now it appears WWE didn’t immediately decide on firing Mustafa Ali.

Mustafa Ali’s arrival in NXT was met with a lot of positive reactions, but fans were simply disappointed he didn’t win the NXT North American Championship. Ali announced last week that he is no longer working with WWE, shocking fans all over the world.

Mustafa Ali’s WWE release also upset a lot of people in NXT. According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s decision to release Mustafa Ali was a late one.

”Regarding Ali being on television and pushing him for a match with Dominik Mysterio on 9/30 and then cutting him, it was said that there were names on the bubble and names that were going to be cut. He was in the former category but the decision was made late to cut him.”
