WWE merged with the UFC and created a brand-new company, and the TKO company, as exciting as it was on Wall Street, ended up causing a lot of cuts within the company. It seems that this was a surprise for NXT as well.

Shawn Michaels recently sat down for a media conference to promote the upcoming No Mercy premium live event. During that time, he was asked about Mustafa Ali’s release.

Mustafa Ali was set to take on Dominik Mysterio at No Mercy in an NXT North American Title match. Shawn Michaels noted that the card needed to be changed, and Trick Williams eventually benefited by getting that spot.

HBK also revealed that he heard about Mustafa Ali’s WWE release “just before” Ali himself. That being said, he was not involved in the decision at all. Shawn Michaels went on to say that Dana Brooke and Mustafa Ali’s releases were main roster calls.

We will have to see what Mustafa Ali does next. He may find his way to AEW, because he does have a lot of friends on the roster. The fact that Bryan Danielson is a huge fan of his could really play into his benefit. Only time will tell where everyone lands once their non-compete clauses expire.
