Matt Riddle had been absent from WWE television over the past few weeks, with his name frequently appearing in headlines due to allegations of sexual assault. He was last seen training at an MMA dojo alongside fellow WWE Superstar Shayna Baszler. He ended up getting released and now it appears some believe him going to AEW would be a bad idea.

Matt Riddle officially confirmed his departure from WWE, and he almost immediately got interest from other wrestling promotions after his release. Many fans and wrestling personalities are speculating that Riddle might make his way to AEW once his non-compete clause with WWE expires.

While speaking on the Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru podcast, Jim Cornette talked about where Matt Riddle could end up next after his WWE release. Cornette expressed his concern over Riddle facing potential backlash, should he make his way to AEW for a variety of reasons.

”Stylistically he would fit in the ring over there. The question is, not only would the audience see him if he comes over immediately and gets pushed, well now he’s come from the evil empire and he’s had accusations against him, so some might take that to heart. Or it’s a WWE star coming in here trying to do a CM Punk thing and take over.

The names in wrestling are mostly associated with WWE, but if you get an audience that is hostile to the idea of them there, to begin with, and they’re so smart, then it not only hurts you when you bring them in cause you’re gonna get backlash, Saraya worked out real well. But also, it kinda penalizes talent because they’re saying, ‘F***, I’m a big name coming out of WWE television, but WWE hate me because I just came off WWE television.”

A WWE announcer also recently stated that Matt Riddle became liability for the company. He also resurfaced in a recent photoshoot following his WWE release. The pro wrestling world will keep tabs on Riddle’s next move, so only time will tell whether he will debut in AEW.

What’s your opinion on what Jim Cornette said? Do you believe AEW should stay away from Matt Riddle? Let us know in the comments!
