CM Punk debuted in AEW when no one thought it was possible, but the dream quickly turned into a nightmare for the company. Punk was fired by AEW earlier this month and since then, rumors of him making his way back to WWE have been rampant. Now it appears Eric Bischoff believes there is no risk in WWE re-signing CM Punk.

Ringside News exclusively reported that CM Punk made desperate attempt to return to WWE when he was part of the WWE Backstage show a few years ago. Other reports have suggested that he was interested in returning to WWE before his AEW comeback earlier this year.

While speaking on the K100 podcast, former WWE executive Eric Bischoff was asked about CM Punk returning to WWE. Bischoff made it clear that he wouldn’t bet against it if TV ratings fall off. Bischoff added that he believes there is no risk in WWE re-signing CM Punk as Punk can’t pull the same stunts he did in AEW.

”If you ask me do you think if he’ll be there in the next three months? No. Six months? No. But once you go beyond six months, it all depends on what happens to the TV market. If the numbers are solid and continue to grow, I think it’s very unlikely. But I guarantee you that if those numbers take a big dip and there’s pressure on the company to do something to energize the market again and somebody brings up Punk’s name, I won’t bet against that.”

“I don’t think there’s any risk involved, because Punk’s not gonna be able to pull into WWE and even remotely have an opportunity to have a repeat performance of what went on at AEW.”

“He’s got to be a relatively smart guy, I believe that. You got into WWE, it’s a different world there. Not only does he show up and cuts a promo like Konnan suggested, think of the backstory potential that’s there as a result of the previous tenure he had. There’s a story you can create, some of it based on reality, some of it made up, but still based on his time in WWE, so the backstory and creative platform there could be very good if the individual Phil Brooks is willing to perform as the character CM Punk within the parameters in WWE. I don’t think he could or would pull the same kind of stunts.”

That said, WWE doesn’t view signing CM Punk to be on the same level as Cody Rhodes. Only time will tell whether The Second City Saint will make his way back to WWE somewhere down the line.

What’s your view on what Eric Bischoff said? Do you believe CM Punk will return to WWE? Let us know in the comments!
