Roman Reigns is at the top of his game, as a part-time champion, the Undisputed Universal Title isn’t defended often. Jake Hager had plans to make a comeback and face him.
Jake Hager recently retired from MMA, but he had some big plans. He actually wanted to make his return to WWE eventually, as an undefeated fighter, while aiming for the Tribal Chief.
Jake Hager was a part of WWE until 2017. During his WWE career, he achieved success as a former ECW Champion, World Heavyweight Champion, United States Champion, and more.
Following his departure from WWE, Jake Hager continued to stay involved in the wrestling world. He transitioned into the realm of MMA, leveraging his amateur wrestling skills. In 2017, he signed with Bellator MMA and went on to make his professional debut in January 2019.
During an interview with K&S WrestleFest, Jake Hager discussed his original plans after leaving WWE. It seems he had a lot of things in mind for himself.
“When I left WWE, my plan was to go to MMA, get really good, be undefeated and then go back to WWE and wrestle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. A little slight turn. A lot of that happened. We were close. I’d kick Roman’s butt. He knows it, I know it. If you want to tell him that, tell him that.”
Jake Hager landed in AEW, and he has maintained a stable presence on their programming since then. That being said, he doesn’t wrestle very often. Perhaps that will change now that he has put his MMA career in the rearview.
