WWE is set to make a return to Australia in 2024, marking their first trip to the country since 2018. The wrestling promotion will host its Elimination Chamber premium live event on Saturday, February 24, at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Western Australia.
However, what’s notable about this event is the timing. According to Dave Meltzer’s report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the show will likely start around 6 a.m. Eastern and 3 a.m. Pacific time on a Saturday morning. This early start is in contrast to how UFC typically schedules its events in Australia, where they have them in the evening to accommodate the U.S. audience.
The reason behind this scheduling decision may be related to WWE’s deal with Peacock. WWE seems to be prioritizing viewership over the first 24 hours rather than live viewership, which means they are less concerned about the show airing at an unconventional time in the U.S.
The Optus Stadium, where the event will take place, can hold up to 70,000 fans for concerts, but WWE is aiming to draw around 50,000 fans in attendance for the Elimination Chamber event. This suggests that the company is investing significantly in the show to make it a major attraction in Australia.
