AEW continues to expand its horizons by introducing more shows and events, that many fans didn’t think were possible back in 2019. This includes the upcoming WrestleDream pay-per-view, but it appears the event could have the lowest pay-per-view attendance since the pandemic.
After AEW All In London, Tony Khan was pleased to announce that WrestleDream is coming to AEW, a tribute to Antonio Inoki. The show will take place in Seattle, WA and will be competing against the NFL on October 1st, which certainly won’t help the event when it comes to ticket sales.
Despite the Antonio Inoki tribute, it won’t necessarily have all the top stars from NJPW. According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the event has sold 5,005 tickets and “ it looks to be the lowest PPV audience since the pandemic.”
According to WrestleTix, the event is currently set up for 7,566 and the last time AEW was at this place was for a January 2023 episode of Dynamite. If one counts AEW’s shows at Daily’s Place during the pandemic, then the numbers are certainly alarming.
That’s not the only cause for concern as a major match could also end up changing due to injury. It remains to be seen whether the event will end up selling more tickets, as we less just over a week until October 1st. By the looks of it, AEW WrestleDream might not be the success Tony Khan envisioned it to be.
